In honor of the G.O.A.T. I've decided to show off my favorite MJ cards. Although I'm still searching for his Fleer rookie and still waiting to pull an auto, here's a few of my favorites... And for good measure, what I wore to work today.
-sorry for the random order of the pics. I was posting from my iPhone.

2011 Topps Value boxes from today
With all they hype on these boxes I finally gave in to the hype and scooped up 6 boxes from my local target for $14.99 a piece. The best hits were a Harper prospect, Lawrie prospect, Mike Trout bowman chrome rc, Brandon Phillips blue refractor /150 and a Hosmer Topps diamond anniversary parallel. Has anyone had any luck with these boxes and should I buy more or just break hobby boxes of chrome?

Box breaks from Thursday!
Finally getting around to posting about the breaks I had on Thursday, it's been a hectic past few days. I bought 6 boxes from my local shop, Sports Cards Plus in San Antonio, Tx. 2011 Topps Linage baseball, 2 boxes of 2010 Topps Chrome baseball, 2011 Topps Tier One baseball and a box of 2011 Panini Plates & Patches football.
I opened the Lineage first. The box topper was a Lincecum and the 2 hits which were pretty good in my opinion were a Joe Garagiola auto and a Bobby Shantz Canary Gold auto #1/10. Even though both of these guys were way before my time, I was really happy with these hits. The relic was a 1975 mini jersey of Ricky Nolasco.
The product itself was nice. I like the design of the base cards and as far as inserts go, they were pretty solid with the diamond anniversary, '75 minis, rookie inserts, cloth stickers, Venezuelan parallels and 3D's. For the price I paid plus the hits I got, I'm very happy with Lineage.
Next was the 2 2010 Topps Chrome boxes. The incitement of a Strasburg or Heyward rc auto was too much for me to pass up. Box 1 was fairly uneventful. The two autos were a Kila Ka'Aihue and a Drew Butera. Both were refractors and I was happy with the Butera auto since I'm a big Twins fan. The second box was better. Although there were no refractor autos, I got a redemption for Luke Hughes, again a plus for a Twins fan, and the second auto Mike Stanton.
As far as the actual set goes, I'm always a sucker for Topps Chrome. The only complaint that I've got is the centering is always inconstant and the cards are usually a little bent. But that's not going to stop me from buying them every year.
Next was the best box of the day. I cracked open the Topps Tier One and I was kind of unsure from the start. Only reason I bought it was because the owner of my shop, who I've known since I was like 5 years old, told me he personally loves it and it was a good price. Obviously it's one pack consisting of 2 autos, 1 relic and 4 base cards. I opened the pack and saw the blank back of the redemption for one of the autos. I was a bit disappointed but I'll get to that in a second. The regular base were of Cabrera, Bench and Zimmerman and there was a Blue parallel of Joe Morgan. The relic was a Top Shelf relic of Aramis Ramirez (white jersey with a nice blue pinstripe). The auto I got was an on card On the Rise autograph of Brad Hand. The redemption is the best by leaps and bounds. A Top Tier auto of Nolan Ryan! Needless to say I was more than happy with this box.
For the product itself, I liked it. All the autos seem to be on-card. The relic I pulled was nice and I even the base cards are very nice in my opinion. I'll definitely be buying more once my shop gets a new case in.
Last box of the day was Plates & Patches. This didn't go as well as the other boxes (this was the only box I hand picked, shop owner Charlie picked all the other ones). This box yielded a nice Jordan Todman auto patch (3 color) /499, Justin Houston rc auto /100 and JJ Watt rc auto /150. The Todman was on card but the other two were stickers. I also got a Darren McFadden jersey as well.
Compared to the other boxes, this was not anything to write about (ironic since I'm actually writing about it) but that's alright. I'm not going to let that deter me as I'll be buying more Plates & Patches in the future. The design of the base cards are extremely nice and although I'm not a huge fan of the sticker autos, the beautiful on card auto patches more than make up for it.
Well, all things considered, I'd say my first break for my new blog was a great one! Below I'll post some pics of the hits and I plan on doing breaks at least once a week. If anyone wants to see anything specific please let me know on here or on twitter (@BlogSCGuy). Also to see scans of all my stuff, you can find me on photobucket under the user name "sawyercards".

Tomorrow is payday so that means big box breaks!
Tomorrow can't come soon enough! Still looking for suggestions for what I should break. Had suggestions for Gridiron Gear and 2012 Lineage baseball from Matt on twitter. If anyone wants to see anything else just let me know. I'll be posting either a video of the break or at the very least pictures of the hits.

First box breaks to come Thursday
First of all, thanks to all those who've subscribed to my blog and followed me on twitter (@BlogSCGuy). There's been better than expected responses so far thanks to Topps, Upper Deck and Panini re-tweeting and following me. So Thursday I'm planning on buying a few boxes and doing a break video/review. But rather than buying whatever I come across, I'll leave it up to y'all to tell me what y'all want to see. Let me know what you would like me to break and I'll deliver. Only parameter is that it has to be baseball, football or basketball. My LCS has pretty much everything so let me hear what you think. And something ill be doing, if im buying boxes to do breaks for my blog, ALL of the cards will be given away to blog and twitter followers as a way of promoting my blog. Updates to come.

One small step for Jonathan, one giant leap for collectors
It may be a while until someone sees this post, but I've decided to start a blog and what better to blog about than my first love. I've been an avid collector of cards since I was 5 years old. I started off collecting only basketball but have added football and baseball as they years have gone on. I started this blog with the purpose of
showing stuff off, reviewing products (I intend on buying boxes of stuff and posting break videos/reviews), posting news from the collecting world and whatever else. If any of my loyal followers (all zero of them at this point) want to see anything specific on this blog, just let me know. You can find me on twitter (@BlogSCGuy), on sports card forum (js52686) or obviously contact me on here. Looking forward to many more blog posts!
